Calculate the final sale price, discount amount, extra discount, tax, and total savings.
Enter the original price and the discount percentage.
How to calculate a discount
To calculate the discount amount, multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100.
How multiple discounts work
When two discounts are applied, the second discount is calculated from the already discounted price rather than from the original price.
Discount example
Suppose an item costs 1,000 and has a 20% discount.
Discount amount = 1,000 × 20 ÷ 100 = 200
Sale price = 1,000 − 200 = 800
Final price: 800
Example with an extra discount
Suppose an item costs 1,000, has a 20% discount, followed by an additional 10% discount.
Price after 20% discount = 1,000 − 200 = 800
Extra discount = 800 × 10 ÷ 100 = 80
Final price = 800 − 80 = 720
Final price after both discounts: 720
Difference between discount and total savings
The discount amount is the money saved from the main discount. If an extra discount is also applied, total savings include both discount amounts.
Tax does not reduce the discount itself. It is added after the discounted price in this calculator.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100. Subtract that discount amount from the original price to get the sale price.
How do multiple discounts work?
Multiple discounts are usually applied one after another, not added together. For example, 20% off followed by 10% off is not the same as a single 30% discount.
What is 20% off 1,000?
20% of 1,000 is 200, so the final price after the discount is 800.
Is tax calculated before or after the discount?
In this calculator, tax is applied after the discounts. Actual tax rules may vary depending on the location and type of transaction.
